National Album Day 2026: 'Icons' Lands 17 October

National Album Day, the UK's yearly celebration of the album as a format, returns on Saturday 17 October 2026 under the theme "Icons". Organised by the BPI and the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) and presented with BBC Radio 2, it is the ninth edition since the event launched in 2018, and on 18 September the organisers published what they call their "strongest-ever line up" of exclusive pressings and classic reissues.

The theme was announced back on 19 May 2026, giving labels months to plan anniversary editions. What arrived on the day is a list heavy on marquee names and coloured vinyl: half-century reissues from Bob Dylan and Billy Joel, a 60th-anniversary Who album, and catalogue reissues running from Pink Floyd to Janis Joplin.

This year's Album Champions

Each National Album Day recruits a small group of "Album Champions" to front its campaign. For 2026 those are PinkPantheress, the composer Max Richter CBE, and Melanie C, added to the pair on 4 September 2026. Their role is mostly promotional — media appearances and picks tied to the theme — rather than new releases of their own.
